Blueberry Birthday

My coworker is from Greece, and even though I lived there for a while I can't remember if they have blueberries in Greece. So I made him a blueberry cake for his birthday, thinking that it might be novel. Luckily he really likes blueberries. And I have enough leftover blueberries to make multiple stacks of pancakes on a snowy winter Sunday.

Later on this afternoon I have a date with a prospective roommate. If she works out I will be extremely relieved.

Montpelier II

A friend bought a new car, so I went along for the ride to Manchester and Montpelier to break it in. You'd be surprised how many people have somewhere to go quickly on a weekday midmorning. It was too cold and drizzly to go swimming, but it was a fun little field trip and beat sitting at my desk.

Montpelier I

I'd been wanting to see Wilco in concert for years, and am particularly smitten with their new album Sky Blue Sky. My friend had tickets to see them in Shelburne Vermont and was nice enough to invite me along. We arrived in Montpelier under a sky blue sky in record time to lunch with my friend's friend, who was also going to the concert. Appetite whetted after an appetizer of flatbread pizza topped with sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, rosemary and apples my friend dropped the bomb.

"Oh shit, I think I left the tickets at home!"

Nervous laughter ensued. In fact, he had. The best solution was to drive back to Boston, pick them up, and try to get back to Vermont in time. If it hadn't been for Friday traffic, a section of highway limited to one lane for construction, and a motorcycle accident we would have made it. It was an extremely valiant effort. As it was, we had some quality time in the car and listened to some good cds. When we got back to Montpelier, we went to the local dive bar with the people who had made it to the concert to drown our sorrows in cheap beer and pool.

At the flea market the next day I got two cows for $5. I'm not especially ga-ga over cows, but I had to take these home. They reminded me of the tiny metal cows I found in my grandmother's bureau when we were cleaning out her bedroom. They don't stand up very well, and the paint has largely rubbed off but I really love them.

They look almost like the real thing! I went to a wedding in Maine a couple years ago and made sure to visit the "oreo" cows. And then have steak for dinner.

I also bought a rubber heart model. It splits down the middle so you can peer inside at all of the creepy little numbered sections. My heart is currently living in my blue bowl, a really good safe place for it right now.

I have a little problem

I didn't really need another pair of glasses, but I couldn't pass these up. Not only are they lovely and downright swanky, but it's a good time for a change. Not as drastic as cutting all my hair off, or getting a tattoo, but still representative of some major life changes. And I don't mean THE change. I'm too young for that. Plus, they're Amadeus brand, which has obvious significance.

Welcome Giselle!!!

They just popped out the middle livingroom window and hoisted her in. Sadly I had to run back to work and will have to wait until tonight to absorb the full beauty of my stunning new couch.

Augusta, Georgia

Last week I visited Augusta, Georgia for a business trip. Aside from working for many hours in a little room with no windows and spending quality time with numerous shrimp caesar salads and HBO in my room, I took a lot of photos.

Lyle

I may finally be getting tired of Lyle. I might rather listen to hiis older cds on my cd player while I'm making curry in the kitchen with a glass of wine rather than at an outdoor venue where the assholes behind us are drunk on cheap domestic beer. And are tipping over tables and yelling. KD Lang opened and she totally kicked ass in her white suit.

Hammond Castle

Hammond Castle is a fantastic place for a wedding. Especially when the sunshine last just long enough to get through the photos; there's a thunder & lightening storm and the electricity goes out in the Great Room; and you get a tour from (and the business card of) the director.

Where did he go?

What the hell happened to John Hughes?
